About The Position

SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Automation is responsible for the oversight of the Distribution Automation system, and the Distribution SCADA system. This includes the automated switching program, communicating fault indicators, and the automated capacitor control program. We assist various groups with the design and implementation of automation, protection & control, and SCADA for Oncor’s overhead and underground systems, as well as the Downtown Networks and large commercial installations such as Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport, Texas Rangers Stadium, and AT&T Stadium. This job entails providing relay settings and/or SCADA configurations that conform to Company protection philosophies to establish complete situational awareness for the Distribution Operations Centers (DOCs)and field personnel, and such that when electrical faults occur they are quickly removed from the system. This job will also provide direct technical support to region and district Transmission & Distribution organizations. This position could entail support responsibilities during storm events that require after-hours time. Ideal candidates possess the ability to approach new problems logically, and are highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, supporting several clients. This is a hybrid position, with 3 office days minimum, based in our 777 Main St – Fort Worth location. We are considering applicants with multiple experience levels and skills. Requirements

  • Two years of experience in the electric utility or Telecom industry is required (for Engineer level).
  • Four years of experience in the electric utility or Telecom industry is required (for Staff Engineer level).
  • Six years of experience in the electric utility or Telecom industry is required (for Senior Engineer level).
  • Knowledge in data analytics, logic development and statistical forecasting.
  • Knowledge with Logical Programming (PLC, Boolean), Oracle, Structured Query Language (SQL), XML (Extensible Markup Language) and/or Python.
  • Knowledge of the design and architecture of IP (Internet Protocol) Networks: Radio Frequency (RF), and/or fiber networks.
  • Knowledge of Distributed Network Protocol (DNP) and Modbus protocols.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the Distribution and Transmission electrical systems and design.
  • Knowledge of distribution asset control systems, and protective relaying schemes.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint with ability to use VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) in Excel.
  • Utilize programming languages to automate processes.
  • Very proficient knowledge of the Distribution and/or Transmission electrical systems and design.
  • Very proficient knowledge of distribution asset control systems, and protective relaying schemes.
  • With minimal supervision, ability to create design documents, technical manuals, and/or procedures.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Nice To Haves

  • Power flow modeling and transmission system planning experience using PSS/E or PowerWorld.
  • Project management, design, operation and planning of transmission and/or distribution facilities.
  • Applicants with a Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Texas are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with Oncor’s safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform QA (Quality Assurance) and QC (Quality Control) on the design, at various stages, of a Distribution Automation program.
  • Plan and monitor reliability improvements pertaining to Distribution Automation.
  • Continually look for new innovations that will improve the Distribution Automation and SCADA system.
  • Manage the automated capacitor control program on the distribution system
  • Utilize cognitive analytics to assist in developing innovative solutions to improve system reliability and safety.
  • Compile and summarize information necessary for operational planning and root cause analysis.
  • Requires good analytical skills for root cause failure investigations on system malfunctions/failures.
  • Analyze and manage the installation and operation of SCADA devices.
  • Assist with the design, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting and efficient utilization of various communication networks such as radio, cellular, and fiber.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of SCADA information within the OMS (Outage Management System) system.
  • Development and optimization of processes and workflows, including developing procedures for craft and technical groups.
  • Understanding of the electrical design, application, and testing of microprocessor protective relaying and SCADA systems.
  • Understanding of relay coordination methodologies and applicable software tools.
  • Understanding of Oncor’s various databases and schema within.
  • Become proficient with Oncor protective schemes and the proper application of the schemes.
  • Become proficient at conducting feasibility studies, facility studies, protective relaying system design studies.
  • Effectively manage a significant number of assignments while maintaining work quality, reliability, and volume.
  • Assists in the development and training programs for Distribution Protection & Control (P&C) technical and Distribution Operations Center (DOC) progression programs and serves as primary liaison with training workgroups at Oncor.
  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.
  • Represent Oncor in industry organizations
