About The Position

As an Engineer within our System Protection group, you will provide cost-effective engineering solutions needed for upgrading, expanding, repairing, maintaining and reliably operating transmission system assets safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements. This job entails providing conceptual designs that conform to Company protection philosophies such that when electrical faults occur they are quickly removed from the system. This job will also provide real-time, interactive, direct technical support to region and district transmission organizations in all areas of system protection such as calculating fault duties, locating faults, performing technical studies and providing guidance in the analysis of relay operations. The role also involves utilizing advanced grid technologies to assess grid performance and prepare the system for future challenges, including load growth, plant retirements, and renewable integration. This is a hybrid position, with 3 office days minimum, based in our 777 Main St – Fort Worth location. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant engineering experience is required (for Engineer level).
  • Capable of being licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas (for Engineer level).
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • General level of knowledge in at least one area related to Power System Protection subject matter.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Must be flexible, have organizational skills, and multi-task skills to handle diverse types of work.
  • Must effectively work across disciplines and functions to achieve common goals and company business purposes.
  • Capable of working with people of divergent backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and team-building skills for effective relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex subject matter and company issues to vendor and Oncor Electric Delivery employees.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant engineering experience is required (for Staff Engineer).
  • High level of knowledge in at least one area related to Power System Protection subject matter (for Staff Engineer).
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant engineering experience is required (for Senior Engineer).
  • High level of knowledge in multiple areas related to Power System Protection subject matter (for Senior Engineer).
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, or for those currently licensed by another state, the ability to obtain licensure in Texas within one (1) year (for Senior Engineer).
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience is required (for Consulting Engineer).
  • Expert level of knowledge in multiple areas related to Power System Protection subject matter (for Consulting Engineer).
  • Consistent and active participant in standards committees and industry organizations (for Consulting Engineer).

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and accurate well-designed and well-documented conceptual designs that conform to system protection philosophies such that when electrical faults occur they are quickly removed from the system, generation stability is maintained, the transmission grid remains intact, and equipment damage is minimized.
  • Understanding of the electrical design, application, and testing of microprocessor protective relaying.
  • Understanding of relay coordination methodologies and applicable software tools.
  • Become proficient with Oncor protective schemes and the proper application of the schemes.
  • Become proficient at conducting feasibility studies, facility studies, protective relaying system design studies, and interconnection design studies associated with generating stations being added to the transmission and distribution system.
  • Evaluate protective relaying schemes and associated breaker controls (proposed and in-service) for conformity to philosophies and standards.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to coordinate and interface with technical and staff personnel in the Transmission Regions/Districts along with other Transmission and Distribution operations and support organizations.
  • Requires good analytical skills for root cause failure investigations on protection system malfunctions/failures.
  • Effectively manage a significant number of assignments while maintaining work quality, reliability, and volume.
  • Work with and manage the work of contract resources in Oncor.
  • Effectively represent System Protection on working groups both inside and outside of Oncor.
  • Applicants must be able to abide by the Code of Conduct and work under the Affiliate Standard of Conduct in the Oncor Transmission Division.
  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.
