About The Position

The Engineer II – T&D Design is a professional with knowledge of and some experience in their engineering discipline, focusing on the design of high-voltage facilities up to 500kV within the utility sector. This role is responsible for independently performing high-level engineering design functions related to high-voltage facilities, including route and site selection, transmission line design, and the physical, electrical, and civil design for substations. The position involves developing engineering deliverables with moderate supervision, primarily for new assets but also potentially assisting with maintenance at existing facilities. The role requires fulfilling technical design needs on large capital projects, with a focus on Transmission and Distribution, while collaborating within a project team. The Engineer contributes to departmental technical projects and objectives, builds knowledge of T&D Design processes, and interacts with customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from ABET approved curriculum or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with certification by the NCEES to sit for the FE exam.
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Knowledge of leading practices for their practice area
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job
  • Proficient at functioning effectively within a team environment, present ideas and opinions in a respective and collegial manner

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical resource, assisting other individuals and departments in the accomplishment of their duties.
  • Understand the integral parts of the particular design and ensure all items are on site and available to meet project schedule.
  • Establish and revise design philosophy to ensure long term value for the Company. Provide recommendations for process improvements, as necessary.
  • Provide engineering support to other individuals and departments.
  • Able to efficiently and effectively deal with project issues with moderate oversight.
  • Leads technical discussion with customers or peers explaining the issue/problem as well as the decision process behind the solution.
  • Provides oversight/guidance to coworkers who perform similar design work.
  • Possesses social and communication skills necessary to integrate into a team, as well as effectively communicate with peers and customers.
  • Able to take on complex design issues and determine a course of action with minimal oversight.
  • Able to consider and evaluate decision implications to the company beyond the isolated immediate problem.
