About The Position

Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledges technical, schedule and cost constraints. Develops and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to insure completeness of test program. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares comprehensive system level evaluations. This position will be responsible to collect data, review, coordinate and conduct a variety of test procedures across various ship systems. The job will require hands on deck plate support as well as providing technical guidance and troubleshooting instructions by evaluating vendor furnished equipment, drawings and test procedure requirements. Looking for a self-starter with a questioning attitude to proactively impact the test program and maintain a high level of quality while ensuring schedule demands are met. The mission of Test Engineering is to operationally validate ship systems by developing, managing and conducting an integrated safety, test, and work control program for non-nuclear systems across all Newport News Shipbuilding product lines. Being that the test team are among the first group to energize, test, and operate shipboard systems in their final configuration, a total ship test approach allows this group to be a single point evaluation source for planning, test procedure development, pre-installation bench testing, troubleshooting, repairs, systems enhancements, material sourcing, shipboard testing, operating and certification. Our team of engineers, analysts and technicians are required to be well versed in the design and installation of ship systems, and expert in their operation. As a Test Engineer employed at Newport News Shipbuilding, you will become an integral part of the team responsible for ensuring the United States Navy has the most advanced Submarines in the world while contributing to the company’s success of delivering quality boats to the US Navy.

Requirements

  • An ABET Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience
  • Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
  • Professional Development Program (PDP) NNS Apprentice Certificate

  • Interest in a hands-on experience working with shipboard systems aboard Nuclear Powered Submarines while undergoing construction/repair.

  • Ability to climb on and around ships including stairs, ladders, masts, and scaffolding.
