General Dynamics Electric Boat is a leader in the shipbuilding industry, designing, building, and maintaining advanced submarines. Department 422 Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) supports non-nuclear programs for the COLUMBIA Class and VIRGINIA Class submarines, encompassing various discipline groups such as Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH), Obsolescence Management Team (OMT), Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), Ship Specification Development, Stowages, and Systems Integration. The Obsolescence Management Team specifically focuses on managing and mitigating contractor furnished equipment obsolescence to maintain construction cost and schedule, and to support lifecycle sustainment by engaging with the Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) Community. Obsolescence is defined as a part no longer being in production, not maintainable through sparing, or not commercially supported or available. The team monitors, validates, notifies, and supports technical mitigation of potential obsolescence issues with an enterprise approach to risk management across all platforms and lifecycle phases. They are responsible for collecting and consolidating information on obsolescence issues into a central database for tracking and reporting.
