About The Position

The Submarine Engineering Advanced Capabilities team is looking for an Engineer Structural 3 in the development of the next generation Fast-Attack Submarine, SSN(X) submarine program. This is an opportunity to join our growing team to contribute and influence the Navy's future, premier attack submarine platform. The selected engineer will be required to oversee several propulsion plant structural engineering projects, cost reduction initiatives, as well as provide guidance and direction to engineering staff. In addition, candidate must be comfortable presenting to NNS senior leadership, Navy, government technical warrant holders and SME’s.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • US Citizenship Required
  • Final Clearance Required to Start

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of submarine engineering and design requirements (Ship Specs), internal ship structure, foundations, and propulsion plant arrangement for submarines.
  • Ability to apply technical principles, theories, and concepts, in the field of structural design and analysis.
  • Experience in working in a collaborative environment to integrate the many ship systems and structural interfaces, with teams of engineers and designers of varying disciplines.
  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills.
  • Working knowledge and utilization of the following software/applications: FEMAP, Abaqus, Teamcenter, Hypermesh, ATIS, DDMS, and MatLab.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs.
  • Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling.
  • Oversee several propulsion plant structural engineering projects, cost reduction initiatives, as well as provide guidance and direction to engineering staff.
  • Presenting to NNS senior leadership, Navy, government technical warrant holders and SME’s.
