Understands the manufacturing and inspection processes required to meet design intent and applies this knowledge to create a producible, cost-effective part. Sets appropriate tolerances that balance technical requirements with component costs and manufacturing process. Partners with subject matter experts to use, create and interpret mathematical models to assess and predict design against technical requirements. Selects appropriate analysis and level of detail (e.g., hand calc vs. FEA; statistical vs. deterministic). Applies knowledge and methods to optimize design requirement for manufacturing, quality, assembly and fielded product value. Collects manufacturing experience from core products to recommend and promote robust manufacturing processes. This individual will work proactively to execute the long-term strategic plan for hardware, and support investigations (including quality escapes), product improvements, Class II and Class I producibility changes & cost reductions, alternate methods of MFG assessments, Drawing Modernization Efforts and component tests.
