About The Position

Department 341 Welding & NDT Engineering – Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing is looking for an additional team member to support onboarding of a new supplier. This role involves providing dedicated on-site support to a supplier in developing a NAVSEA Technical Publication welding program. The engineer will assist the supplier in qualifying new welding procedures, review and approve their welding procedures, and offer guidance in developing quality procedures that support the welding program. Additionally, the role requires direct oversight and continued assessment of the supplier's weld program performance, providing technical guidance and expertise for construction support, problem resolution, and corrective actions related to the supplier's welding. Maintaining company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in welding is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering
  • 5+ years of post graduate related engineering experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with both a technical and nontechnical audience
  • Candidate must be highly motivated, perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations, including interfacing regularly with SUPSHIP or NAVSEA customers, in an engineering environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work and support multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering
  • Three or more years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding applications
  • The ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications and engineering drawings
  • Experience working with basic arc welding processes and an understanding of the fundamentals of welding metallurgy
  • Experience with the development and qualification of weld procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated on-site support to supplier developing NAVSEA Technical Publication welding program.
  • Support supplier in qualifying new welding procedures
  • Review and approve supplier welding procedures
  • Offer insight and guidance in the development of quality procedures that support welding program
  • Provide direct oversight and continued assessment of supplier weld program performance
