About The Position

The Software Engineer designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs application software and systems containing logical and mathematical solutions. The role conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and hardware engineers in planning, designing, developing, and using electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. It determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve issues involving program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls; prepares operating instructions; and designs and develops compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. The role ensures software standards are met. This position is with Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, which designs, builds, and refuels U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and provides U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. The position requires U.S. citizenship and is not eligible for telework. It includes travel of 10%–25% of the time.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree.
U.S. citizenship is required.
No years of relevant exempt experience are required.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Python, C++, or Java.
Experience with MySQL and Access databases.
Experience with Verilog or FPGA development.
