About The Position

Tatham Engineering is seeking an Engineer to work in the Transportation group based out of either their Barrie, Collingwood, or Guelph office. Hybrid arrangements may also be considered for an experienced candidate. This role will help lead the completion of transportation design projects. Typical projects include the functional, preliminary and/or detail designs of roads, highways and intersections. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow into a Project Manager role, taking on more responsibilities and assisting with business development and overseeing select projects and team members. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a background in road, highway and intersection design and municipal infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (P.Eng.)
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience
  • Experience with TAC, OPS, OTM, and other applicable Ontario municipal standards
  • Experience designing projects in AudoCAD Civil3D
  • Strong understanding of the process required to advance a road project from initial proposal writing through design, approvals, and tender preparation
  • Experience coordinating with utility companies, subconsultants, municipalities, approval agencies, and other project stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound technical judgment and a commitment to high-quality deliverables

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with roundabouts, active transportation, traffic signals, roadway lighting, traffic calming, and contract administration
  • Experience with Civil 3D or coordinating Civil 3D design teams
  • Experience with Municipal Class Environmental Assessments

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the managing of multidisciplinary projects to ensure compliance with budgets and schedules
  • Prepare designs using Transportation Association of Canada (TAC), MTO and/or other standards
  • Prepare designs including vertical and horizontal alignments, roadside safety, drainage, grading, staging, pavement markings, and signage
  • Prepare designs using AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Provide technical direction and training to junior staff
  • Conduct site visits and investigations
  • Coordinate with utility providers to confirm existing and/or planned infrastructure
  • Coordinate with approval authorities
  • Coordinate with clients and subconsultants, including meetings and presentations
  • Prepare budgets, work plans, and schedules for proposals
