•$120,000 - $150,000

About The Position

The Senior Project Engineer – Nuclear plans, directs, manages, and coordinates engineering functions related to the design and development of fluid-flow components, with a focus on nuclear-industry valve design and modifications to existing products to meet manufacturing and customer requirements. The role supports design, production, planning, quality, and delivery scheduling to enable successful production. The engineer is the primary individual responsible for the technical performance of assigned products and works under minimum supervision of the Manager and/or Supervisor as required. The position reviews customer specifications and valve data sheets, selects an existing valve model or designs a new valve, evaluates requested design changes, and develops drawings and documentation for production. It also involves operability calculations, ASME code design reports, commercial-grade dedication documentation, production support, technical liaison with other departments, and collaboration with engineering, quality, testing, and production personnel. Candidates must meet the US persons criteria.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Five years of fluid-flow component design experience, including at least three years of valve design in the nuclear industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and prove new concepts and modify existing products.
  • General knowledge of ASME Section III codes and ASME/ASTM materials for nuclear-industry valves, plus awareness of some military standards.
  • Familiarity with ANSI B16.34, B31-1, and B31.3 valve design standards.
  • Strong understanding of geometric tolerance techniques based on ANSI Y14.5M.
  • Knowledge of CSA N285.0 Canadian standards.
  • Experience with commercial-grade dedication (CGD), Appendix B, and Part 21 for the nuclear industry.
  • Basic knowledge of stress analysis and ASME code formulas for preparing valve design reports.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of a PC-based CAD system.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Initiative, excellent organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly responsible and dependable, with the ability to work cohesively as part of a team.
  • Must meet the US persons criteria.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, push and pull, stand for long periods, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, visual acuity, and typing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Valve design and electrical component training.
  • Mathcad software experience.
  • Familiarity with the EPICOR system.
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer technical specifications and valve data sheets, and select an existing valve model or design a new valve.
  • Serve as the primary individual responsible for the technical performance of the product.
  • Review and comment on customer-requested design changes.
  • Assist and advise the Chief Engineer regarding technical information related to customer specifications on new orders.
  • Prepare component drawings, bills of material, test procedures and reports, OMM documentation, and other supporting materials.
  • Prepare and release drawings and other documents required before formal release to production, modifying existing parts where possible to accelerate the process.
  • Produce operability calculations to confirm compliance with customer specifications, using static analysis that considers force balance, pressure, spring, coil, and seismic forces.
  • Prepare ASME code design reports using Mathcad software.
  • Prepare and release commercial-grade dedication documents defining critical characteristics of valve components.
  • Support production activities as needed, including material rejection reports, repairs, assembly, and testing.
  • Provide technical liaison and information to purchasing, production, and other support departments on special materials, specifications, sources, subcontracting, and troubleshooting.
