About The Position

Toyota’s TMNA Paint Production Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Paint Materials Engineer. Reporting to the TMNA Production Engineering Paint Materials Manager, the person in this role will support the PE – Paint department’s objective to be a global leader in new material development and move towards plant of the future initiatives to ensure flexibility and competitiveness. The primary responsibility of this Paint Materials Engineer is to evaluate and manage new model color paint trials, new material technologies, and support current production initiatives to reduce material cost and improve material performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Engineering or related PE/MFG experience
  • 3+ years of Toyota or other automotive company Paint project management experience working across multiple functions
  • 1+ years of new color introduction experience
  • 1+ years of experience in color and appearance evaluations
  • Proven experience working with cross functional divisions on vehicle master schedule, material/product development introduction, and implementation
  • Ability to countermeasure issues with TBP thinking
  • Proficient MS Office applications (Excel for analysis and PowerPoint for reporting & presentations)

  • Project experience within Paint Pilot function
  • 1+ years of experience in paint lab doing workability evaluations
  • Mastery in Japanese language
  • Mastery in Spanish language

Responsibilities

  • Lead new color & material introductions to all NAMCs (body & resin paint) from lab workability through online testing and production approval, including trial planning, quality evaluations, and direction setting recommendations – primary focus on paint & resin shops at TMMTX, TMMBC, and TMMGT
  • Establish process controls and parameters (RJ) for new materials/technologies and gain one-voice among cross-functional teams
  • Lead materials-related problem solving across multiple divisions; applying TBP methods to identify root-cause and countermeasures
  • Support and assess CPU and Environmental impacts of new materials; quantify cost/benefit and lead decision-making with stakeholders
  • Support TMNA PE Paint department Hoshin objectives
  • Ability to travel (up to 30%) to support NAMC competitiveness
  • Ability to work overtime which could include weekends, holidays and shutdown periods to support projects
