About The Position

Responsible for special projects and related engineering assistance in support of manufacturing operations. This role utilizes engineering disciplines to troubleshoot shop floor activities and improve shop floor throughput to reduce costs. The engineer will interact with Divisional Engineering on new jobs related to PPAP and process items, and communicate foreseen issues with the Technical Manager for discussion and possible resolution. The position also involves initiating job specifications for new jobs, obtaining and fashioning samples for Boundary Boards and other process documentation, and coordinating and performing initial trial runs on new processes and equipment. The engineer will note and track issues for resolution, initiate improvements to existing systems, and process machinery and equipment to support manufacturing functions and operations. Additionally, the role includes creating bill of materials, process flows, and PFMEA, estimating production times, staffing requirements, and costs. The engineer may also make customer visitations, interact with various plant personnel, and work with raw material suppliers on quality issues. Keeping abreast of technology improvements, recommending and justifying equipment and process implementation for cost reduction, and working on continuous improvement programs are key aspects of this role. Maintaining job records and statistically analyzing gathered data are also required. The engineer will work closely with shift supervisors and department managers to ensure proper quality operations during new job start-ups and provide assistance to the plant technical manager on assigned projects. Occasional performance of duties other than those specified may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in an engineering discipline with 4 years of process engineering experience, or equivalent combination of less education and more related process engineering experience.
  • Ability to focus and lead multi-disciplinary task teams.
  • Previous experience in supervision in manufacturing.
  • Excellent knowledge of manufacturing parts and processes.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate job specifications for new jobs and provide this information to the New Job Specification Coordinator for entry into the Electronic Specification System.
  • Obtain and fashion samples for Boundary Boards and other process documentation.
  • Coordinate and perform initial trial runs on new processes and equipment.
  • Note and track issues for resolution.
  • Initiate improvements to existing systems.
  • Process machinery and equipment to support manufacturing functions and operations.
  • Create or construct bill of materials, process flows and process failure mode effective analysis (PFMEA).
  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decision.
  • May make customer visitations for job product related involvement.
  • Interact with plant engineer, industrial engineering, quality manager and plant chemist on job related functions.
  • May work with raw material suppliers on quality oriented problems.
  • Keep abreast of technology improvements, recommend and justify implementation of equipment and process establishing cost reduction improvements.
  • Work on continuous improvement programs and cost reduction projects.
  • Maintain job records as required.
  • Statistically analyze gathered data in test runs and make recommendations based upon analysis.
  • May work with laboratory in conducting material and product test and evaluations.
  • Work closely with shift supervisors and department managers to insure proper quality operations of materials and equipment on new job start-up.
  • Provide assistance to plant technical manager on assigned projects.
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description.
