About The Position

Dominion Energy is seeking an Entry or developmental level engineer to join the Electric Transmission Planning Generation Interconnection team. This role will support engineers in evaluating the impact of new generation and energy storage resources on the transmission system through engineering studies, technical analysis, and coordination with PJM and internal stakeholders. The position offers an opportunity to develop expertise in power systems, renewable energy integration, battery energy storage systems, and transmission planning.

Requirements

  • Associate Engineer: 0-2+ years of engineering experience
  • Engineer: 2-5 years of engineering experience
  • Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory
  • Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)

  • Analytical and abstract thinking skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems

  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program or equivalent
  • Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
  • Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
  • Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree)
  • Accepting Candidates graduating by May 2027

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or Exposure to: Power Systems Analysis, Power System Protection, Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Renewable Energy Systems, Control Systems, Transmission and Distribution Systems, Numerical Methods
  • Understanding of three-phase power systems
  • Understanding of per-unit calculations
  • Ability to analyze electrical system models and data
  • Ability to learn power system simulation software
  • Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret results
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting tools (Python, MATLAB, VBA, etc.)
  • In unmanned systems, Engineers must have ability to hoist, lift, and maneuver equipment using proper safety techniques.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and maintain awkward or restricted positions as tasks require.
  • Ability to remain standing for prolonged periods and perform work while on their feet throughout the shift.
  • Ability to enter, work within, and exit confined spaces in accordance with safety procedures and applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers in evaluating the impact of new generation and energy storage resources on the transmission system through engineering studies, technical analysis and coordination with PJM and internal stakeholders.
  • Support power flow, short-circuit, stability and reliability assessments.
  • Review technical information submitted by developers.
  • Assist with transmission planning studies.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams.
