About The Position

This role is responsible for operating and providing support to HMSA's network infrastructure. The engineer will ensure the reliability of HMSA's networks through planning and implementation of enhancements, and will maintain and upgrade the network infrastructure. This includes making configuration decisions, updating configuration management tools, and documenting procedures. The position also involves implementing, maintaining, and operating network monitoring tools to analyze capacity and growth, performing packet captures, and maintaining system security through audit and compliance procedures, patch installations, and physical security of the network infrastructure. Contingency plans, including backup and restoration procedures, are also part of the responsibilities. Additionally, the engineer will provide technical expertise across business functions, understanding the relationship between business needs and the Information Systems Department. This includes consulting with other IS teams, recommending infrastructure requirements, supporting system integration efforts, and planning upgrades. The role involves coordinating with vendors, managing asset and disposal procedures, designing infrastructure replacement plans, and monitoring Key Performance Indicators to ensure service levels are met. Troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, and working with multiple vendors to resolve issues are key aspects. The engineer will also review logs, maintain ITSM tools, identify user training needs, share knowledge, and update users on incident status. Participation in long-term infrastructure strategy and planning, as well as rotating on-call support schedules, including after-hours support and travel to remote locations, is required. The employee must also participate in continuing education and training to maintain an updated knowledge base.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or technical institute degree / certificate or equivalent work experience.
  • Three years of relevant information technology work experience.
  • Demonstrates expertise in multiple technologies, such as Cisco / Aruba networking equipment, load balancers, next-generation firewalls, network access control, IPSec VPN, data center infrastructure, cloud computing, packet capture analysis, scripting, network monitoring tools, wireless analysis, Uninterruptable Power Supply systems, structured cabling management, network documentation and diagrams.
  • Effective communication skills, to include the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with other Information Systems Department teams regarding infrastructure requirements and provides recommendations for both the design and implementation of systems integration efforts.
  • Supports project planning and requirements gathering efforts.
  • Recommends and creates action plans for systems development and / or integration.
  • Plans and implements upgrades and ensure that change management procedures are implemented and followed.
  • Plans and schedules infrastructure repairs and installations.
  • Coordinates and plans activities with vendors.
  • Ensures that asset and disposal procedures are adhered to.
  • Designs and implements infrastructure replacement plans.
  • Maintains inventories as appropriate.
  • Monitors Key Performance Indicators and maintains service levels to ensure that requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Escalates problems as required.
  • Informs management as appropriate.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems.
  • Works with multiple vendors to coordinate the resolution of issues.
  • Reviews logs and maintains Information Technology Service Management tools to document changes and identify recurring problems.
  • Identifies the training needs of users.
  • Shares knowledge with users and other Information Systems Department staff.
  • Updates users on the status of incidents and problems.
  • Ensures that follow-up procedures are adhered to.
  • Tracks customer satisfaction.
  • Participates in long-term infrastructure strategy and planning.
  • Participates in rotating on-call support schedules.
  • Provides after-hours support to business operations, as needed.
  • Supports remote locations across the Hawaiian Islands, to include overnight travel, as needed.
  • Required to be on-call for critical incidents as they arise.
  • Employee must participate in continuing education and training as needed or assigned.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned or directed.
