About The Position

Reporting to the Manager – Product Definition, the Engineer - MRB Liaison is the intermediate representative in the group, responsible for repairs required during the manufacture of the airplane. The Engineer – MRB Liaison has the responsibility and authority to perform Material Review Board (MRB) duties and provides engineering support to all organizations engaged in the design, development, publication, assembly, test, installation, delivery, and repair of products. When any problem with the aircraft structure is reported to him/her, the Engineer – MRB Liaison must find a solution, with or without any assistance from a senior member of the liaison engineering group, and raises the necessary documentation to overcome the problem quickly and efficiently. In this position, he/she is the authority in repair and/or salvage dispositions with respect to engineering specifications, concepts and integrity of design. He/she is authorized to sign for a disposition on behalf of the engineering department. The problems encountered in this position require the incumbent to work closely with all specialists within engineering, such as design, stress, materials technology and others as required.

Requirements

  • Competence in basic stress analysis.
  • Excellent knowledge of aircraft structures and systems installation technical requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft materials and hardware, company practices and standards, as well as aeronautical engineering standards and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a high sense of commitment, and a willingness to accept responsibilities while acting independently in a high-pressure partner/supplier team environment.
  • Competence in Catia V4, V5 and/or AutoCAD to a Level enough to perform the day-to-day tasks.
  • Current work authorization for Canada is required for all openings.
  • A criminal background check is required for candidates aged 18 and over.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and analyzes the disposition of repairs for structural non-conformances in a timely manner to restore design integrity.
  • Rapidly designs repairs based on equivalent strength/stiffness of surrounding structure while in a schedule-driven environment.
  • Adheres to company material review board (MRB) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
  • Interacts with inspectors, shop mechanics, other engineering disciplines and management as required.
  • Maintains a current and up-to-date knowledge of developments in aircraft structures in order to recommend innovations to improve the quality, economy, and effectiveness of company products.
  • Investigates, analyzes and determines solutions for manufacturing and engineering problems that may hinder or prevent the assembly or function of components, based on the principles of aeronautical design, including function, serviceability, cost, schedule, material processes and assembly limitations.
  • Provides written instructions when required by Material Review policies to restore non-conforming parts and assemblies to the originally designed product integrity and quality.
  • Interprets engineering drawing, specifications, policies and philosophies.
  • Obtains engineering expert advice and assent on fixes and repairs affecting original Engineering philosophy and requirements.
  • Assists manufacturing and related departments in an advisory capacity in methods processes, cost and schedule improvements.
  • Maintains close co-ordination with and fosters teamwork with all departments within the company with operations and engineering.
  • Investigates, analyzes and provides solutions for corrective action requests involving engineering.
  • Pursues a personal development program to maintain a competence level consistent with state-of-the-art and improvements in fields related to liaison activities.
  • Provides the Supervisor with current information pertaining to manufacturing changes, problems or any other matters of significance to the group.
  • Advises the Supervisor on manufacturing problems affecting aircraft already delivered to customers and on problems affecting the safety of the aircraft in general.
  • Informs design engineering of any feature in the design which could affect safety or makes proper assembly near impossible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
