About The Position

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia. We’re the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. Our diverse and innovative team of professionals ranges from skilled trades to project managers, engineers and software developers to solution architects, technical subject matter experts, and system users. We collaborate together at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of the most powerful and survivable naval ships in the world. The E92 Model Based Engineering (MBSe) team is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Model-Based Engineer to join our innovative team and support our efforts to revolutionize how we design, build, and sustain aircraft carriers and submarines. The primary responsibility of this team member will be to support projects in the MBSe Innovation Cell (iCELL). The ideal candidate will leverage model-based systems engineering (MBSE) techniques to support the lifecycle management process to develop, test, and implement innovative engineering & design solutions of complex shipbuilding projects. This individual will require a solid understanding of current engineering processes as well as an overall understanding of how ships are designed, planned, constructed, and maintained. This position includes a range of responsibilities including leading R&D-related projects, systems engineering, process & tool solution development (including TcU/NX, SAP, SIMCENTER, etc.), industry standards, project management, and support strategy development. This individual will be required to interface with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels of leadership. This person will be supporting the SSN(X) new Submarine design, and FORD Class Carrier and focus on the use of a model based environment to develop a comprehensive framework for digital twin value assessment and analysis processes. The focus areas are to define “what" and to “what level" digital twins should be considered for NNS programs followed by the “How” to manage digital twin maturity states. They should also have basic knowledge of and a willing to learn emerging technology enablers, including model based analysis and simulation concepts, requirements management, IoT, software driven systems, and sensor feedback for component operating and behavior characteristics necessary to validate physical to virtual relationships of a digital twin.
