About The Position

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. Responsible for performing engineering functions associated with MIL-S-901D/MIL-DTL-901E shock and MIL-STD-167-1 environmental vibration qualification of equipment including leading major projects, preparation of shock test reports, witnessing and assisting shock and vibration tests, preparing drawings related to shock test projects, performing engineering calculations, and preparing and delivering technical presentations to Navy customers. Will be required to apply engineering standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results, and follow engineering operations through a series of detailed steps or processes. Must be responsible for leading shock tests at the Ingalls lightweight Shock Test facility with minimal supervision and must be able to support shock and environmental vibration tests at off-site shock test facilities and be capable of on-site problem resolutions for anomalies discovered during shock and vibration testing. Must also perform technical reviews for shock and environmental vibration qualification of equipment. Required to develop and analyze equipment/structure to verify shock and environmental vibration specifications are met. Also required to provide support the completion of procurement specifications and Technical Purchase Requisitions and develop detailed Statements of Work for departmental projects. Must serve as liaison between the Shock and Vibration engineering organization and other internal Ingalls technical and program organizations as well as Government technical and program organizations. Must be able to work with limited direction and independently complete assigned tasking with limited supervision. Required to apply standard engineering practices, scientific principles and techniques to specific situations and recognize discrepancies. Must have the ability to interact and present information verbally and in writing to internal and external customers in a clear and professional manner.

Requirements

  • 9 Years with Bachelor of Science degree in related field
  • 7 years of relevant professional experience with a Master's Degree
  • 4 years of relevant professional experience with a PhD
  • US Citizenship Required
  • Must be a current employee of Ingalls Shipbuilding

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in MS Office products, Autodesk products, Femap, and NEi Nastran preferred
  • Significant experience in MIL-S-901D/MIL-DTL-901E shock and MIL-STD-167-1 environmental vibration qualification of equipment is preferred
  • Experience with Ingalls Shipbuilding processes preferred
