About The Position

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines. The successful candidate: • Will be responsible for and have ownership of A1B propulsion plant valve/component designs. Responsibilities include design, qualification, procurement support, shipboard installation and test support, providing maintenance instructions, and fleet support for propulsion plant valves/components. • Must have good problem-solving skills and be able to quickly draw solutions to complex component and shipboard issues that are technically correct, meet all specification requirements, cost effective, and complete to support downstream customer’s needs. Experience with or openness to modifying existing valves/components by additive manufacturing or other advanced manufacturing processes is desired. • Must have good communication skills - both verbally and written. The candidate will be responsible for reporting on their area of cognizance to all levels of NNS management as well as directly to our customer, along with the normal interactions with vendors. • Will be responsible to assist engineers within the group ensuring their work is technically correct and timely. The candidate shall also assist engineers in the group with reporting, tracking, and maintaining status of their work. • Will be adaptable for emergent issues and possess good organizational skills to maintain progress of more routine work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience
  • Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience
  • Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program

Responsibilities
