About The Position

This position supports Department E86 Nuclear Propulsion - Construction and Process Engineering. The specific area of responsibility for this position is for the Steam Plant Mechanical group in E86. The E86 Steam Plant Mechanical group is responsible for providing engineering support for all CVN 78 Class Steam Plant ship construction and testing for major steam plant propulsion components and fluid systems. A successful candidate should possess analytical/problem solving skills to resolve technical issues, which arise during new construction and testing of CVN 78 Class Carriers. The individual shall have good communication and interpersonal skills to interface and discuss technical issues with technical and non-technical personnel. In addition, the individual should be willing to provide hands-on or on the job site engineering support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Responsibilities

  • Provides on-site and hands-on Engineering support for waterfront steam plant construction and testing issues.
  • Problem solving of construction and testing issues on CVN 78 Class Carrier Steam Plant mechanical systems.
  • Develop Technical Work Documents such as Carrier Construction Propulsion Procedures (CCPP’s) and electronic Inspection Reports (eIR’s).
  • Review and interpret construction drawings and Visual Work Instructions (VWI’s) for ship construction and testing of steam plant mechanical systems.
  • Collaborating with other Engineers, Construction Management and Trades Craftsmen on a daily basis.
  • Support the Steam Plant Mechanical group as a technical lead and mentor to the less experienced engineers.
  • Act as a secondary supervisor who can step in and manage the group when necessary.
  • Attend Construction Agenda and Test Plan of the Day meetings and speak for items under our area of responsibility.
