About The Position

Liberty is seeking Engineers to join its Transmission and Distribution Line Design Team. The role is open to both Junior and Senior level engineers. A Junior level engineer, with guidance, will be responsible for preparing models, performing route selection, assisting with right-of-way acquisition, and optimizing line and structure spotting. They will also prepare material and construction specifications, design criteria, and construction drawings, procure materials, and support projects through construction. This includes performing structure analysis and design for various pole and guyed structures and foundations, and may involve working with an engineering technician. A Senior level engineer will perform all duties of a junior level engineer, while also leading and directing the work of others, providing expert judgment and analysis, and training entry-level engineers. This role requires extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, resolve highly complex technical issues, and conduct advanced research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Ability to obtain Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate within 12 months (for Junior level)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD applications (for Junior level)
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license (for Junior level)
  • Willingness to travel once trained, up to 15% with some overnights (for Junior level)
  • 5+ years of T&D utility experience (for Senior level)
  • Working knowledge in AutoCAD, PLS-CAD, PLS-POLE, CIASSON/FAD (for Senior level)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for compiling technical reports (for Senior level)

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate (for Junior level)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license (for Senior level)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and review transmission and distribution line projects to ensure timely completion that is consistent with Company standards, NESC, and other applicable codes or regulatory requirements, and is cost effective within budget guidelines.
  • Perform detailed analysis and design of wood pole, steel pole, steel lattice, and other structures and foundations using Finite Element Analysis techniques as well as industry standard software.
  • Produce design drawings for internal or external projects, ranging from routine equipment replacement and installations to complete design of new facilities, and generate documentation for these transmission and distribution lines, preparing specifications, sag and tension calculations, electrical clearance calculations, conductor sizing and transmission line routing diagrams.
  • Review and comment on internal and external structural steel drawings, foundation details and general layout drawings. Plan and coordinate work for engineering techs, drafting techs, and contractors.
  • Solve problems regarding line design, right-of-way, and material with internal and external customers to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Manage and support construction project flow, including field meetings, resolving project construction conflicts, and resource scheduling.
  • Utilize excellent written and verbal communication skills to promote change within the company.
  • Enhance the company by implementing time- and cost-saving methods of completing tasks within the department.
