About The Position

We are seeking an engineer to perform engineering and construction administration work for the Stormwater Construction Branch within the Utilities Design and Construction Division. The Utilities Design and Construction Division manages the bid advertisement, contract award processes, and overseeing all aspects of construction contract management for transportation projects and stormwater projects including inspection, testing, code compliance, warranty, and project closeout. Note: This position is in the Stormwater Construction Branch, located in the Fairfax County Government Center at 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Virginia. This position may be eligible for telework. A $5,000 signing bonus is available to new county employees hired in the Engineer IV position.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field.
  • Four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering or architectural field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Valid Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect License.
  • Completion of a criminal background check and driving record check.

Nice To Haves

  • At least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in construction management for stormwater, major utility, or public works projects.
  • At least four (4) years of experience preparing, procuring, administering, and managing construction and engineering contracts for site or utility construction.
  • Experience with project financial and budgetary planning, tracking, and reporting at the project level.
  • Experience reviewing, interpreting, and applying construction plans, specifications, and contract documents in the administration of construction projects.
  • Experience in the close-out of construction contracts, to include closing permits, and resolution of punch list items.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms in a construction site.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Ability to physically negotiate rough terrain and typical construction sites.
  • Ability to produce handwritten and typed documents.
  • Ability to walk steep grades and off-street terrain.
  • Bilingual in English and another language.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering and construction administration work for the Stormwater Construction Branch within the Utilities Design and Construction Division.
  • Manage the bid advertisement, contract award processes, and oversee all aspects of construction contract management for stormwater projects including inspection, testing, code compliance, warranty, and project closeout.
