About The Position

The Engineer IV, Product is responsible for directing and coordinating activities involving Loram products, including all technical aspects of the products from concept to through validation, including long term product vision and strategic prioritization to develop, market, and support Loram products. This role is also responsible for leading developing and maintaining equipment design and generating equipment proposals of high complexity. Collaborates actively with Chief Engineer and cross functional team to determine direction.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years of experience supporting development of equipment design and generating equipment proposals.
  • Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentials
  • Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite.
  • Possess advanced understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and control systems for assigned product lines.
  • Possess in depth understanding of global railway regulations.
  • Establish compliance strategies to guide to guide product vision, proposal generation, and production execution.
  • Possess understanding of market requirements and competing technologies and direct the implementation of product improvements, product line extensions, and technical services.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Degree in Engineering or Business
  • 7+ years’ experience with Heavy Equipment Design and product line development with multi-discipline engineering integration.
  • Experience with proposal generation, project scoping and definition, and cost estimation.
  • Experience directing individual or small teams of engineers and designers.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt and/or PE
  • Autodesk and ERP software

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage product vision of assigned products; develop machine specifications for target markets based on customer and market requirements.
  • Establish priorities and long-range plan for assigned product line developments.
  • Drive process improvement within engineering and cross-functionally for assigned business priorities.
  • Justify product and performance improvements with return on investment reasoning and calculations.
  • Generate and direct CAD concept layouts of high complexity to assist with proposals and Chief Engineer product vision.
  • Create product configuration architecture and manage assigned product options, variants, and standard components.
  • Lead and direct engineering proposal activities of moderate to high complexity, including technical specification response and sign-off, scope of work creation, project definition creation, and configuration selection, compliance, and certification planning.
  • Lead the technical aspect of assigned products and manage from concept through validation.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance in alignment with established product vision to the cross functional engineering teams of production, current products, and new product development.
  • Actively mentor engineering staff in technical knowledge, application, and processes.
  • Drive for results through reaching consensus, influencing peers, and holding others accountable to meet expectations.
  • Develop presentations and communicate product development strategies to ensure Loram’s leadership is aware of product accomplishments and future needs.
  • Establish effective cross-functional, internal, and external relationships that improve and promote Loram products and services.
