About The Position

This is a supervisory professional engineering and administrative position in the Flood Management and Environmental Resilience Division involving the application of complex engineering principles and practices and basic administrative techniques in the development, design, construction, maintenance and operation of stormwater management systems, storm drainage systems and flood control facilities. Work requires sound professional judgement, administrative skills and responsibility for the supervision, training and evaluation of lower-level professional, para-professional and technical engineering personnel under the general supervision of higher-level engineering or management personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the engineering field determined by the requirements of the position (e.g., civil, environmental, architectural, mechanical, industrial, construction).
  • Four (4) years of progressive professional experience in the appropriate engineering field, to include at least two (2) years of lead/supervisory experience.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) License is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • No equivalency for the required supervisory experience.
  • No equivalency for required licenses.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or Water Resources Engineering.
  • Versatile with the use of Arc GIS.
  • Ability to interpret engineering design and construction plans.
  • Knowledge of local codes governing flood management, stormwater management, site grading.
  • Minimum of 7 years project management experience related to flood, stormwater or sediment and control.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the management of the County’s Municipal Storm Drainage Acceptance Program.
  • Oversees the Department’s drainage, erosion and flooding complaints investigation program.
  • Oversees the review and evaluation of project plans assigned and ensures that, for accuracy and consistency, these reviews are being conducted on a timely basis.
  • Oversees the preparation and completion engineering design, reports, consultant/contractor contract solicitation procurement, suspense items, change order evaluations, claims and disputes in a timely manner.
  • Assists Junior Engineers and Planners by providing them with the required technical guidance and supervision necessary for the preparation of design computations/ specifications for use in purchasing engineering and/or construction services.
  • Assists Junior Engineers and Planners in field and site evaluation of complex drainage, erosion and flooding concerns.
  • Performs quarterly and annual performance review and assessment of Junior Engineers and Planners.
