About The Position

This is a senior level electrical engineering position located onsite in Coolidge, AZ focusing on power transmission and distribution. This role will be supporting the San Carlos Irrigation Project (SCIP) Power Program which purchases power from the Western Area Power Administration and the Southwest Public Power Agency and resells it directly to customers on the San Carlos Indian Reservation and areas near the outside the reservation boundary. This includes the electricity to approximately 13,000 residential, commercial, industrial, and government customers in Pinal County and parts of Pima, Maricopa, Graham, and Gila counties. Its service area spans approximately 2,400 square miles and serves agricultural and rural customers in the Lone Butte industrial park area and large residential populations in the San Carlos, Gila River, and Oracle areas. This is located in Coolidge, Arizona, no relocation available.

Requirements

  • Must be able to clearly communicate design details, specifications, and operating requirements to other team members in support of business decision-making.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local building codes and safety laws. Work requires advanced math skills, special relationship abilities, and the ability to understand "abstract" principles behind math and physics.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work proactively with project stakeholders requiring strong skills of diplomacy.
  • Performs a variety of tasks in working under limited supervision; a certain degree of creativity and latitude required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or similar from an ABET Accredited institution.
  • Evidence of obtaining professional engineering licensure (P.E.) in any state is required.
  • At least 3 years’ experience with directing work of a multi-disciplinary technical team.
  • Experience with industry design standards for power utilities is required.
  • Experience with Federal Design standards of associated infrastructure.
  • At least 10 years of experience with Power Utilities is required

Nice To Haves

  • At least three years’ experience, background and knowledge of one or more DWP programs, is highly desirable.
  • Support the multi-disciplinary needs of the BIA’s respective programs.
  • Support various needs of the project and the dynamic schedule inherent in a nationwide science and engineering program.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of subject-matter experts and project contributors.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to multi-cultural stakeholder needs.

Responsibilities

  • including distribution equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
  • Review various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
  • Apply strong knowledge of NESC standards and utility standards, guides, specifications, and procedures.
  • Participate in the development of project schedule, scope, budget, resource forecasting, and construction planning. Responsible for the effective management of change orders.
  • Apply knowledge and experience to complex projects to find non-standard design solutions.
  • Oversee or perform Quality Control reviews of project deliverables.
  • Oversee or perform construction administration activities.
  • Lead field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private electric utility systems.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
  • Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction by mentoring less experienced engineers and designers.
  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
  • Responsible for effective communication regarding vegetation management, third-party attachments, right-of-way, and outage planning.
  • Responsible for compliance with federal and site safety policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
