About The Position

This is an entry-level position for an Engineering Intern in the Water & Wastewater Department. The intern will work towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent and will assist the Project Manager in various project phases, including design, development, calculations, cost estimates, and plan preparation. The role involves coordination with internal departments, assembly of project documentation, meeting deadlines, and problem identification. The intern will also prepare water and wastewater plans, specifications, and studies, review quantities, and assist in planning, design, and construction phases. Maintaining confidentiality and performing other assigned duties are also part of the role. The position requires strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, the ability to work independently and in a team, and proficiency with computers, Microsoft Excel, Word, and AutoCAD. The intern must be able to attend evening meetings, prepare permit applications, and represent the firm professionally. Detail orientation is essential.

Requirements

  • Working toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Possess excellent organizational skills
  • Able to work within a “team” concept
  • Proficient with a computer and Microsoft Excel and Word and working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Must be able to attend evening meetings with clients as needed
  • Must be able to prepare permit applications
  • Must represent the firm professionally in public
  • Detail oriented
  • Able to work seated for 9 or more hours per workday
  • Able to work 40 or more hours per work week, as needed
  • Able to work outdoors traversing uneven or difficult terrain
  • Able to travel throughout Indiana including overnight stays
  • Possess a valid Indiana driver’s license
  • Agree to abide by the personnel policies identified in the Company Policy

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager in all phases of project design and project development
  • Prepare various components design calculations with oversight
  • Prepare various components of quantity calculations with oversight
  • Prepare various components of cost estimates with oversight
  • Prepare various components of plans with oversight
  • Work and coordinate with other internal departments
  • Assist in assembling Supplements, Proposals, and Engineer’s Reports
  • Meet deadlines
  • Alert Department Manager immediately upon realization of a problem on a project
  • Prepare Cost Estimates
  • Prepare various components of water and wastewater plans, specifications, and studies
  • Review Quantities
  • Assist with various phases of planning, design, and construction phases of projects
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information regarding our clients and company practices
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
