The Thornton Tomasetti Construction Engineering Practice leverages our core Structural Engineering expertise to meet the engineering needs of our contractor. We provide contractor support engineering, tower crane engineering, skip hoist engineering, shoring and reshoring design, excavation and earth retention engineering, connection design, erection engineering, contractor support engineering. We also partner with contractors and sub-contractors to provide value engineering ideas and perform structural design on design-build projects. As a Structural Engineer Intern in our Construction Engineering Practice, you will gain hands-on experience at the intersection of design and construction. You’ll support innovative temporary works, erection strategies, and steel connection solutions that enable safe, efficient, and constructible delivery of projects around the world. You will collaborate with skilled professionals in a dynamic, team-oriented environment while developing practical construction engineering skills. This intern role is for Summer 2027.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering.
  • Strong academic record and interest in structural engineering and construction.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with structural analysis software and CAD/BIM tools (such as Revit, Tekla, or AutoCAD) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the analysis, design, and detailing of temporary works and construction engineering solutions, including formwork, falsework, shoring, and erection systems for complex building and infrastructure projects.
  • Assist with steel connection design and detailing, gaining exposure to real load paths, fabrication constraints and field considerations.
  • Support development of construction sequencing plans, stability analyses, and erection strategies.
  • Prepare construction engineering documents, calculations, and drawings within a BIM environment, gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard tools, workflows, and advanced modeling techniques.
