About The Position

At the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), we plan, build, maintain, and protect the transportation systems that connect communities, support commerce, and keep Louisiana moving. This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews. No prior engineering experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series. Positions are located in East Baton Rouge Parish, and reports to the Engineer 6. While in an official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Applications will be accepted from applicants who are within 90 days of graduation.
  • Any offer of employment will be contingent upon verification and confirmation that the applicant has received a qualifying degree.
  • The selected candidate will be required to submit an official transcript confirming graduation within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Reviews or prepares plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
  • Performs or assists with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or bridge preservation activities.
  • Provides technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, preservation, or new capacity projects.
  • Coordinates with project managers, consultants, districts, construction staff, and other internal or external partners.
  • Reviews bridge-related project documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Supports development or maintenance of design guidance, standards, procedures, or technical documents.
  • Assists with emergency response or technical reviews involving bridge or structural concerns.
