About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety, and welfare. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) is seeking qualified engineers to join the Waste Permits Division’s Solid Waste Engineering Group. This position provides the opportunity to apply engineering principles to the review and evaluation of solid waste facilities, permitting applications, and environmental protection systems. Engineers in this group play an important role in protecting public health and the environment while supporting the safe and responsible management of solid waste throughout Louisiana.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
  • Applicants who possess a current Engineer Intern Certificate in states other than Louisiana will be accepted, but must obtain a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Review engineering plans, permit applications, and technical documents for solid waste facilities.
  • Evaluate landfill design, construction, operation, closure, and environmental protection systems.
  • Conduct site inspections and assist with evaluating facility compliance with permit requirements and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance to facility owners, consultants, local governments, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare engineering reports, permit documents, correspondence, and recommendations to support regulatory decisions.
