Red Chris is an open-pit copper-gold mine in the famous Golden Triangle of northern British Columbia, situated on the traditional territory of the Tahltan Nation. As a fly-in, fly-out operation, Red Chris is reached via charter flights from multiple locations in BC and Alberta, with teams working on a rotational schedule. Currently an active open-pit producer, Red Chris is poised for an exciting transformation – we are developing a high-value underground block cave that will extend the mine’s life for decades and unlock even more resources. Your Impact As Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Tailings, you will be an integral member of the tailings management team at Red Chris Mine, providing engineering support to ensure the safe, responsible, and efficient storage of tailings. Working under the supervision of the Superintendent, Tailings (the Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer, or RTFE) you will help co-ordinate the day-to-day management of the Red Chris Tailings Impoundment Area (TIA), supporting inspections, quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), geotechnical monitoring, water management, and reporting in line with Newmont’s global standards, industry best practices, and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).You will assess relevant geotechnical, environmental, and operational risks, help implement mitigation measures, and continuously monitor facility performance, while developing the technical knowledge, judgement, and relationships needed to progress toward your professional engineering designation and long-term growth and opportunities in the Tailings Management field.
