About The Position

Elk Valley Resources (EVR) is seeking an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) for Long-Range Planning at Green Hills Operations. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Supervisor, Long-Range Planning, this role is responsible for developing and optimizing mine plans. The position supports mid- and long-term mine planning, involving scheduling, pit design, KPI analysis, economic evaluations, and data management. This is an opportunity for an engineer to make a significant business impact. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with a dedication to continuous improvement. A team-oriented individual with a strong focus on safety, personal responsibility, and self-motivation is desired. The ability to make effective decisions, be flexible, and manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment is crucial. The role is located in the Elk Valley of British Columbia, offering a compressed work week with alternating Fridays off, promoting work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum one year of experience in mine planning is preferred
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) pursuing Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with EGBC or equivalent
  • Experience with mine-scheduling software (e.g., XPAC Solutions) and mine-design software (e.g., Minesight 3D)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Participate in mine scheduling and design across a wide range of planning horizons, including pit, spoil, haulage and closure design while considering sustainable development
  • Perform iterative KPI analysis and reconciliation to drive continuous improvement and support robust decision making
  • Carry out economic evaluations to support decisions (mine-plan scenarios, equipment purchases, operational strategies, etc.)
  • Assist in developing mine permit applications and amendments, ensuring mine plans comply with permit requirements
  • Contribute to the development of annual reserves and resources reporting
  • Maintain planning data and support data-management best practices
