About The Position

Modjeski and Masters, Inc. is seeking an Engineer in Training II - Field Services to work at our Edwardsville, IL location. This role involves reviewing and interpreting bridge plans, specifications, and technical reports to assist inspection and construction teams. The position requires conducting basic inspections of bridge construction and related infrastructure, preparing concise summary reports, and coordinating project documentation. The role also includes reviewing structural design calculations, performing structural evaluations using software platforms, and developing preliminary details using CAD software. The job may involve limited national travel for field inspections and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Civil or Structural Engineering; 2 years relevant engineering experience; and required skills (2 years exp).
  • Alternatively, Master's in Civil or Structural Engineering; 1 year relevant engineering experience; and required skills (1 year exp).
  • Required skills: bridge-related projects.
  • Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.
  • May undergo background checks including drug screen, MV Record check, security BGC for e-RAILSAFE and TWIC.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret bridge plans, specifications, and technical reports to assist inspection and construction teams, identifying discrepancies and contributing to accurate assessments under supervision.
  • Conduct basic inspections of bridge construction and related infrastructure to verify compliance with design documents and report findings to supervising engineers.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
  • Prepare concise summary reports detailing inspection findings, site conditions, contractor activities, and meeting outcomes, formatted for review by project managers and clients.
  • Coordinate and produce project documentation including technical reports, memos, and correspondence for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with project standards and communication protocols.
  • Review and check standard structural design calculations.
  • Perform structural evaluations using multiple software platforms, interpret results, and contribute insights to engineering discussions, ensuring findings are clearly communicated to project managers and technical leads.
  • Develop preliminary details using CAD software, and provide information to CAD technicians for development of contract plans directly related to design work.
  • Perform and check quantity takeoffs from contract plans.
