About The Position

As an Engineer in Training I at GCW, you will have the opportunity to work on entry-level professional engineering assignments from the designs of others, compile data, perform elementary design computations, and prepare engineering plans. This role involves assisting with design and planning of engineering projects under supervision, report preparation, modeling, calculations, drawing preparation and revisions, and review of shop drawings and requests-for-information. You will also interact with clients, gather information from government agencies, assist with cost estimates and study plans, conduct research for technical specifications, and submit requests to government agencies. Collaboration with CAD Technicians, Designers, other E.I.'s, and college interns is expected, as is attendance in in-house training programs. Specific duties within the Flood Control Division include technical and master drainage studies, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, detention basin design, FEMA flood zone mapping, CCRFCD Master Plan updates, channel and drainage infrastructure design, and preparing GIS and CAD Drainage Exhibits.

Requirements

  • Ability to apply engineering principles to evaluate and solve basic engineering problems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD Civil 3D software and Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, and Project).
  • Bachelors of Science degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam: EI certificate.

Nice To Haves

  • Specific working knowledge of ArcGIS software.
  • Specific working knowledge of WaterCAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with design and planning of engineering projects under supervision of the Project Manager.
  • Assists with report preparation, modeling, calculations, drawing preparation and revisions, and review of shop drawings and requests-for-information.
  • Interacts, as directed, with clients on an intermittent basis and gathers information from government agencies as needed.
  • Assists with the preparation of cost estimates.
  • Assists with study plans.
  • Conducts research and preparation of draft technical specifications for review and approval by Project Manager.
  • Submits requests, as directed, to appropriate government agencies.
  • Works closely with CAD Technicians, Designers, other E.I.’s, and college interns to assist and complete project goals and deadlines.
  • Attends in-house training programs.
  • Performs technical and master drainage studies including hydrologic and hydraulic calculations.
  • Designs detention basins.
  • Performs FEMA flood zone mapping.
  • Assists with CCRFCD Master Plan updates.
  • Designs channels and drainage infrastructure.
  • Prepares GIS and CAD Drainage Exhibits for existing and proposed conditions.
