About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking an Engineer-in-Charge to join our Construction’s Bronx/North Queens – Section 2 team. The successful candidate will report to a Deputy Director and will be responsible for coordinating and supervising a team of Resident Engineers, Office Engineers, Inspectors, and Junior Engineers. This role involves conducting constructability review meetings to minimize delays in construction, ensuring accurate compilation of project information, and generating project data to aid in the resolution of field problems. The Engineer-In-Charge will also provide information to the Design, Engineering Services’ Utility Coordination team, and Program Management Units during various stages of construction. Responsibilities include inspecting contracted work for compliance with Agency and City policies and standards, generating cost proposals and estimates for contract price negotiations, and evaluating and making recommendations on design and redesign modifications of engineering structures. The candidate will also attend pre-alignment meetings and serve as the Agency's on-site representative by meeting and coordinating with representatives from both the public and private sector to minimize disruption and construction impact on the community. Additionally, the role includes developing and training employees.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work
  • A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License
  • Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment
  • ACI Concrete Field -Testing Certified or take the first available DDC - offered training session
  • OSHA 10-hour Certified or take the first available DDC - offered training session
  • Currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.)
  • Original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. must be presented
  • Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution
  • Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service

  • A masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required
