About The Position

The Engineer III supports the development and implementation of transit improvement projects. This position develops cost estimates and schedules, performs engineering calculations and designs, conducts technical studies, supports communication efforts, reviews designs and construction activities, and contributes to all aspects of project delivery while working with staff and consultants.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in the design and construction of transit and transportation projects with exposure to multiple civil engineering disciplines.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering principles related to public infrastructure design and construction, including grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, track, stations, structures, and understanding of the integration of system elements into the civil design.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, regional, and federal regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as required to support project needs.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license and a motor vehicle record that meets RTD driving standards.

Responsibilities

  • Manages consultant design contracts and construction contracts, including assignment of work, review of project progress, and monitoring budget and schedules.
  • Supports all phases of project delivery, including planning, design, and construction.
  • Oversees and directs technical studies for the selection and implementation of projects. These studies may include site planning, agency design development, drainage and hydraulic studies, structural analysis, traffic engineering, and construction planning.
  • Coordinates projects with local, state, regional, and federal agencies to ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Prepares Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Invitations for Bids (IFBs).
  • Coordinates design and construction activities, status updates, and documentation with internal stakeholders, including program controls, to support investment tracking and reporting.
  • Participates in community engagement efforts, including providing public presentations, to address community, business, and neighborhood concerns.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of division goals and objectives; including supporting RTD’s goals for diversity and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program participation.
  • All other job-related duties, as assigned.
