About The Position

This Engineer III position will serve as a Project Engineer within the Division Two Project Development Group. The Project Engineer will provide supervision and management in the development and coordination of the planning, design, project schedule, and construction of various types of division-managed projects. This includes oversight and review of the preparation of contract documents, engineering estimates, specifications, standard drawings and special construction details as well as developing and implementing measures to control project costs. The position tracks all aspects of each project from conception to completion including project feasibility, planning, public involvement, project design, right-of-way acquisition, environmental issues, budget, and project letting and award to ensure timely delivery of projects and programs. This position is located in Greenville with the Project Development Unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, practices, and theories used in construction project proposal development.
  • Experience maintaining effective working relationships with NCDOT staff, consultants, contractors, and public officials while managing conflicts and deadlines.
  • Experience with project development concepts and construction processes, using these skills to resolve issues and develop proposals.
  • Experience with computer using SAP, MS Word, Excel and other various software such as Bentley Products, APLUS, and NCDOT Trns•port.
  • Skill in organizing resources, planning, scheduling, and coordinating work in order to maintain schedules.
