About The Position

Modjeski and Masters, Inc. is seeking an experienced Engineer III - Structures to join our team in Edwardsville, IL. This role involves performing comprehensive performance evaluations of bridges, ensuring compliance with bridge codes, and utilizing Finite Element Analysis for structural integrity. The position also includes the structural design of bridge components, preparation of project documentation, drafting construction specifications, and creating cost estimates. Additionally, the role involves mentoring junior engineers, reviewing shop drawings, collaborating with various stakeholders, and inspecting project sites. The engineer will also be responsible for stamping engineering documents and presenting projects at conferences. Occasional national and local travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in Civil or Structural Engineering, 4 years rel exp working on bridge-related design projects, and required skills (4 years exp).
  • Alternatively, Masters in Civil or Structural Engineering, 3 years rel exp working on bridge-related design projects, and required skills (3 years exp).
  • Required skills include: constructions techniques, materials science, and hydraulics; safety standards; project management; CAD; and relevant engineering codes and standards.
  • Must hold Professional Engineer certification.
  • Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Complete performance evaluations of bridges through analysis of deflection, stress, + strain.
  • Ensure compliance of bridge code within all designs.
  • Use Finite Element Analysis to ensure structural integrity of designs.
  • Perform structural design of foundation, substructure, + superstructure of a bridge.
  • Prepare proposal documents incl technical details, goals, + timeline + project budget.
  • Draft construction specifications + special provisions for projects.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates for bridge projects.
  • Act as mentor to Engineer in Training employees.
  • Provide guidance to more junior engineers ensuring thorough understanding of software programs used for structural analysis.
  • Review + check structural shop drawings submitted by others on team.
  • Work w/ clients, subconsultants, contractors, + fabricators under Project Manager supervision.
  • Inspect project sites to monitor progress + ensure conformance to design specifications + safety or sanitation standards.
  • Provide official stamp for personally prepared engineering documents following state specific requirements.
  • In collaboration w/ Senior Engineers, present projects during Conferences.
