About The Position

This is not just another maintenance position. Engineer III is designed for the technician who has developed advanced technical expertise, enjoys solving complex problems, and wants to play a key role in mentoring others while helping maintain one of Portland's premier hospitality properties. The Engineer III serves as the senior technical resource within the Engineering Department and may function as the Engineer on Duty during assigned shifts. This role is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of hotel systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, and building automation systems. The Engineer III is expected to work independently, mentor Engineering I and II team members, and assist leadership with maintaining the overall reliability, safety, and efficiency of hotel operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Hotel, commercial, healthcare, institutional, or large facility maintenance experience
  • Multiple technical certifications in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, pool operations, boilers, or related trades
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) or Direct Digital Controls (DDC)
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hotel systems and equipment
  • Diagnose and resolve complex HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical issues
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Monitor and maintain building automation and energy management systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance on critical building infrastructure
  • Coordinate and oversee outside contractors and vendors when necessary
  • Conduct facility inspections and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Assist with emergency response and after-hours building issues
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and work orders
  • Serve as a technical mentor and trainer for Engineering I and II team members
  • Support department leadership in maintaining operational excellence throughout the property
