About The Position

Arizona Public Service (APS) is seeking a motivated Professional Engineer III / Senior with extensive electrical controls system design and field experience to join their growing Generation Non-Nuclear team. This role will utilize technical expertise to ensure designs for APS Generating plants meet expectations for safety, quality, performance, and engineering design standards. The ideal candidate will have a pragmatic, detail-oriented perspective with good time management skills and a passion for applying their engineering expertise.

Requirements

  • A four year Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Engineer III: Five (5) years of working experience in Engineering-related positions.
  • Engineer Senior: Eight (8) years of working experience in Engineering-related positions.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee) due to potential access to U.S. Export Control Laws.
  • Must obtain and maintain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards.
  • Must pass a full seven (7) year criminal history background check for CIP access.
  • Must reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

Nice To Haves

  • Problem analysis/resolution techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, methods, and safety standards in the area of applicable engineering discipline.
  • Experience in the utility industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Approved degrees include: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Architectural, Structural.
  • Adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic setup for working from a home office.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and applies unique solutions and applications to a broad range of technical issues and problems, making decisions and recommendations that have a moderate to significant effect on overall organization performance.
  • Prepares complex engineering plans, designs, analysis, specifications, cost estimates, evaluations, studies, technical reviews, investigations, and verifications, ensuring compliance with standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Integrates interrelated elements of complex projects, interpreting and modifying guidelines as needed, and complying with design, regulatory, operating, and maintenance requirements.
  • Interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and work scope meets requirements, budget, and schedule.
  • Provides technical guidance, leadership, and support to less experienced engineers.
  • Assists the organization in problem-solving by critically challenging assumptions and decisions to ensure optimal solutions and strategies are implemented.
  • Leverages industry and organization resources to resolve key technical issues and develops a path forward, potentially interfacing with outside agencies and regulatory authorities.
  • May plan and coordinate programs and large-scale engineering projects or multiple medium-scale projects, acting as a technical specialist.
  • Monitors projects and recommends modifications to increase operating efficiency and/or reviews design and documentation of complex projects to ensure compliance.
  • May research new developments and technology and make recommendations to management on their feasibility for Company operations.
