About The Position

The Carpenter Technology Corporation “Hartsville Operations” located in McBee, South Carolina, is a mini mill supplying a variety of sizes and specifications of high-quality round, square and hexagonal stainless-steel bars for distribution. Carpenter Technology acquired Talley Metals in 1997 to increase manufacturing capacity within the corporation’s core Specialty Alloys Operations division.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree in an Engineering discipline preferred.
  • Two-year college degree and/or three or more years engineering support experience.
  • Understands the key business drivers; uses this knowledge in own work.
  • Expands fundamental knowledge in own function and broadens skills.
  • Accountable for technical contribution to a project team or sub-team.
  • Works with others to achieve team goals through expanded knowledge and skills within own function.
  • Aware of costs and assists in controlling costs related to own work.
  • May be accountable for subsets for project deliverables and has no formal role in managing projects.
  • Knowledge of the existing manufacturing systems including computer systems, steel making processes, material flow and handling schemes, quality systems and process control techniques.
  • Solves a range of problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures.
  • Responds to non-standard requests from customers; investigates with assistance from others as needed.
  • Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions, to perform assignments with moderate supervision, to operate a computer workstation and the appropriate software/hardware, to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to train and develop others, to work under frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Willing to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the upgrade, rebuild, installation and start-up of process equipment.
  • Analyze key process measures and report results to management.
  • Participate in the development of new equipment specifications.
  • Supports implementation of solutions to equipment safety issues.
  • Provide technical assistance and an interface function on process, product, and maintenance problems.
  • Interact with outside resources including contractors, equipment vendors, and supply vendors for assigned projects.
  • Work within and assist in the development of the appropriate standards, specifications, and procedures, including but not limited to those required for production, technical, safety, and environmental activities.
  • Utilizes Permac to order parts and supplies.
  • Participate in the definition of equipment engineered rates and the review of new process equipment.
  • Participate in the implementation of moderate sized capital projects; may be responsible for project subsets.
  • Understand opportunities for OEE improvements and contributes to OEE improvement initiatives.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
