About The Position

LG Energy Solution Arizona, Inc. is seeking an Engineer II to support site-level New Product Introduction (NPI) execution for battery cell development and mass-production transfer projects led by Headquarters NPI/R&D in South Korea. The role assists with on-site execution from pilot-line validation through mass-production stabilization, working under the guidance of an NPI Engineer. The position supports cell assembly process data collection, customer PPAP preparation, initial production yield stabilization, and process parameter validation. It also contributes to technical transfer, quality documentation, customer audit support, and issue investigation in coordination with Headquarters, site manufacturing and quality teams, and global clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, such as Chemical, Materials, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in NPI, Process Engineering, or Quality Engineering in manufacturing.
  • Experience working within PPAP documentation frameworks, including PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA, and Cpk/Ppk.
  • Familiarity with shop-floor problem-solving methodologies such as 8D reports or 5-Why.
  • Working knowledge of statistical data analysis tools such as Minitab and SPC.

Nice To Haves

  • Battery cell assembly experience.
  • Business English proficiency in verbal and written communication for collaboration with Headquarters and global clients.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, DOE, and statistical tools.
  • Experience with Headquarters-to-plant technology-transfer projects for new battery cell products.
  • Experience supporting customer PPAP submissions and audit responses under IATF 16949 quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with pilot runs and DV/PD/PV sample builds according to Headquarters R&D/NPI schedules.
  • Help validate transferred assembly process recipes and parameter settings, including welding conditions, electrolyte amount, and pressing force.
  • Collect assembly process data, document variances across equipment and lines, and provide supporting feedback to Headquarters R&D as directed.
  • Prepare supporting reports on line uptime, cell yield, and bottleneck analysis for NPI Gate Reviews.
  • Collect and submit assembly process capability data, including Cpk/Ppk, Gauge R&R, and MSA data, as requested by Headquarters Quality or Customer Support teams.
  • Localize and update site-specific PFMEAs, SOPs, and inspection standards based on Headquarters documents such as DFMEA/PFMEA and Control Plans.
  • Support customer line tours and demonstrations of key assembly and inspection processes during audits, and assist with corrective actions for audit findings.
  • Monitor ramp-up yield trends, support defect Pareto analysis, and help control process variation to achieve target capability for key assembly processes.
  • Support preparation of 8D reports for NPI-stage defects, including tab welding failures, dimensional or visual defects, and sealing or leakage issues; assist with root-cause investigations using cross-sectional analysis and report findings to the NPI Engineer.
  • Support optimization of laser welding parameters, electrolyte injection and soaking time, and humidity and pressure controls to reduce defect rates.
  • Help transfer validated assembly process know-how, safety guidelines, and operating precautions to site manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Assist in documenting and managing approvals for 4M (Man, Machine, Material, Method) changes during the NPI phase.
