About The Position

The Distribution Planning Engineer II/III provides technical engineering, design, economic, and analytical support to develop forecasts and long-range system plans, and conducts stakeholder meetings and presentations. The role performs engineering tasks using skills and experience gained through engineering methods and analysis, with increasing responsibility for technical decisions and interpretations. It provides technical guidance and leadership to others as needed. The engineer supports Customer Construction to help ensure distribution-system reliability and stability, works with divisional personnel to identify cost-efficient ways to serve new customers, and provides timely solutions for Economic Development customers. The role develops and maintains feeder and transformer forecasts; facilitates multi-department meetings to develop capital projects addressing forecast-related system deficiencies; and models, simulates, and analyzes distribution circuits using the CYME distribution modeling tool. The engineer maintains knowledge of industry trends and technology through engagement with research institutes, peer groups, and regulatory bodies. The position prepares and reviews engineering plans, designs, analyses, specifications, estimates, studies, evaluations, technical reviews, investigations, and verifications, ensuring technical soundness, cost effectiveness, and compliance with applicable standards, codes, regulations, and operating requirements. It interfaces with customers, departments, management, and other stakeholders to clarify project objectives and requirements, communicate technical information, and present results. The role may also support engineering programs, lead small- to medium-scale projects, contribute to long-range strategies, recommend improvements to performance and operating efficiency, and guide less experienced engineers. This is a hybrid role. Employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in person at an APS or other non-home-office location and to reside in Arizona, or in New Mexico if based at Four Corners. Home-office work requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic setup. Role types may change based on business need.
