The Quonset Point Facilities Department is seeking Mechanical Engineers to provide technical oversight for vendors who repair, maintain, and make improvements to critical infrastructure and utilities. These positions will provide robust project and vendor management to all aspects of industrial facility construction, maintenance and modernization, equipment trouble-shooting and repair, new facility systems procurement and installations, and other related efforts. Ideally, the applicants will be familiar with critical building systems such as processed/compressed gas systems or fire protection. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a well-rounded engineering, construction, or facility maintenance background and a strong drive for continuous improvement. Applicant must be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple facility projects and tasks of varying degrees of complexity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering
  • 2-5 years of engineering, project management, or related industry experience
  • Able to work independently
  • Written and oral communications skills
  • Be proficient technically with a willingness to continuously learn

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with critical building systems such as processed/compressed gas systems or fire protection.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with fire protection / fire suppression system maintenance and support
  • Minimum of 2 years experience with process gases (argon, CO2, propane, oxygen, nitrogen) system maintenance and support

Responsibilities

  • Engineering and developing the scope of work
  • Preparing bid documents, vendor selection, securing funding and preparing purchase requisitions
  • In field management of vendors while maintaining project budgets, schedule, and quality.
  • Provide technical oversight toward the efforts of the staff in planning, budgeting, and prioritization of all work.
  • Independent decision making is required.
  • Available to work overtime including emergent situations, extended hours and weekends, and during severe weather events when required.
