Puget Sound Energy's Engineering Operations team is seeking a qualified candidate to fill an open Engineer I - Substation Controls position. This role is responsible for designing controls systems for substations with voltages of 12kV and above. The controls systems include all wiring for switchyard equipment, control house, and control panel devices up to the protective relays. Controls engineers are also responsible for field support and developing project construction drawings, including detailed schematics and wiring diagrams, to integrate relays and other electrical components for operating, protecting, and automating the electrical grid. Project work encompasses planned programs like "brownfield" substation equipment upgrades and SCADA integration, new "greenfield" substation design, and emergency equipment replacements. This role is within the Substation Engineering group and requires close coordination with other PSE engineering teams, including System Protection and Relay Engineering, and Substation Design. Under direct supervision, the engineer will conduct simple analyses for engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, cost estimates, and system studies. The role involves developing professional knowledge and abilities by applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to engineering tasks and supporting emergency response operations when needed. The position upholds safety compliance standards and promotes a culture of total safety. It also requires conducting business honestly, ethically, and in accordance with core values and Code of Conduct, ensuring all duties are performed in compliance with regulatory obligations.
