About The Position

This position supports the power generation fleet with a focus on boiler reliability as well as life management of pressure parts and piping. Other focus areas of technical support are stress analysis, welding technology, RCFA, and machine design. This position will be filled based on experience and qualification. Individual normally works under close supervision on a variety of projects that have specific instructions and expected results.

Requirements

  • ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology
  • Regular attendance is essential for satisfactory performance.
  • Frequent local travel to plant locations is expected.
  • Periodic overnight travel to training/industry conferences.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to analyze and solve engineering problems from a business perspective.
  • Working knowledge of pipe stress analysis, non-destructive examination techniques, and welding technology.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards related to boiler pressure parts and power piping in the generation industry.
  • Ability to communicate across diverse project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility will be to support the fleetwide boiler reliability program.
  • Keep detailed records of boiler tube failures, boiler pressure part maps, develop project scopes, and investigate failure causes.
  • Evaluate inspection findings and develop repair plans when necessary.
  • Participate in external industry research groups and apply learnings to internal work practices.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods.
  • Gathers, correlates, and analyses specific data using established procedures.
  • Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests, and analysis.
  • Performs a variety of routine tasks to become familiar with the engineering methods, practices, and programs of the company.
  • Supports operating and maintenance functions with problem identification, engineering analysis, and problem resolution activities.
  • Prepares and presents reports giving conclusions of job related engineering activities.
  • Assists other engineers with large projects, as needed.
  • Assists with the development of goals, objectives, budgets, programs, and procedures.
  • Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free work place. This includes periodic contractor safety management during onsite work activity.
  • Conducts work activities with regard to environmental rules and regulations.
  • Regularly reviews assignments to assure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Occasionally directs the activities of coops, supervisors, and others as they perform various activities.
  • Performs other duties as directed by management.
