Engineer I - Distribution

About The Position

The Engineer I will perform both simple and complex design tasks for distribution system growth and maintenance, ensuring efficiency and timeliness. This role will perform work and assist other design staff for Investor Owned Utilities, Cooperatives, Municipals, and non-Utility customers.

Requirements

Bachelor's of Science in Engineering from An Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Advanced skill development in Microsoft Office and other applications.
Effective communication skills and providing status updates or any issues with current work assignments.
Ability to work as an individual in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers.
Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business information.
Self-motivated, reliable, trustworthy, as well as technically competent.
Demonstrated time management skills.
Ability to constructively work on multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

Basic understanding of fundamental electrical and power engineering theory and applications.

Responsibilities

Prepare project and job packages that include material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, site drawings and construction drawings for various installations of electrical facilities in a cost-effective manner that maximizes safety and service reliability.
Read and interpret blueprints, maps, change orders, improvement plans, construction specifications, procedure manuals, operational procedures, etc.
Perform drafting work and assist in the preparation of designs, plans and reports.
Make accurate engineering calculations.
Collect and analyze field data and prepare accurate and detailed reports and records.
Learn, practice, and promote ALL safety policies and procedures 100% of the time.
Apply various codes, requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures to all assigned work to create safe and cost-effective designs for projects of a high complexity for both overhead and underground projects.
Use various design software and work management tools.
Evaluate distribution equipment such as transformers and fusing.
Follow utility construction practices on public right of way (ROW) and private land.
Regularly communicate job status to assure client expectations and deliverable dates are met.
Coordinate with construction personnel and clients to resolve any project issues.
Develop relationships with key internal and external customers while supporting both company and client’s business goals and expectations while representing themselves both positively and professionally.
Maintain files and records in an organized manner.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
