About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for its innovation in various markets including life sciences, mobile consumer electronics, optical communications, display, automotive, and solar. The company is seeking an Environmental Engineer to assist with environmental assessments by collecting data, conducting field observations, and supporting the identification of potential compliance risks. This role involves supporting the implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS), monitoring environmental regulations, interpreting compliance requirements, analyzing environmental data, and assisting facilities with setting improvement goals. The position also includes developing training materials, supporting permit preparation, participating in inspections and audits, assisting with incident investigations, and providing support on environmental remediation projects.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field
  • Foundational knowledge of environmental regulations (air, water, waste, and sustainability concepts)
  • Passed or intent to sit for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, with interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure over time
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills

Nice To Haves

  • MS Degree preferred
  • Internship, co-op, research, or academic project experience related to environmental compliance, sustainability, or manufacturing
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 or environmental management systems
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement concepts (Yellow or Green Belt a plus, but not required)
  • Experience working in team-based academic, research, or professional settings

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of facility Environmental Management Systems (EMS), including ISO 14001, under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Monitor and summarize updates to environmental regulations, industry standards, and corporate guidance, and help communicate impacts to operating facilities
  • Help interpret environmental regulations and assist facilities with understanding compliance requirements
  • Compile, organize, and analyze environmental data to support reporting, tracking, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Support facilities in setting short-term (annual) and long-term (3–5 year) environmental improvement goals
  • Assist in developing and delivering environmental training and awareness materials for facility personnel
  • Support the preparation of environmental permits by gathering required data and documentation
  • Participate in regulatory and corporate inspections, audits, and due diligence activities as part of a team
  • Assist with incident investigations by helping identify root causes and supporting corrective and preventive action development
  • Provide support on environmental remediation projects by coordinating with internal teams and external consultants
