About The Position

Georgia Power is seeking an Engineer, Engineering Associate, or Engineering Representative for the Canton distribution team. The specific title will depend on the candidate's skills, education, and experience. This role involves engineering work activities supporting the Canton headquarters, including the design, estimation, and coordination of construction for overhead and underground projects. The position requires providing superior customer service and project management skills to meet service dates. Responsibilities include writing and executing switching orders for system maintenance, operation, and planning to ensure reliability, as well as processing documentation for compliance. The candidate will also participate in an on-call trouble supervision rotation and must be available after business hours for trouble and storm restoration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (From ABET Accredited School) OR Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology OR Bachelor's Degree in Math or Science OR Professional Engineer's License (PE) in lieu of the above bachelor's degree.

  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated.
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application.
  • Must have no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application.
  • Must have no pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Distribution Engineering Experience is a plus.
  • Distribution and or related Engineering experience with a power utility company is a plus.
  • A two-year technical degree, OR four-year degree in a non-technical field, OR EUT Certificate with two years of utility experience is preferred but not required (for Engineer Representative position).
  • Prior experience in writing and executing switching orders preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ARMS, JETS, GIS, Socket, DistView, TCMS Web, NJUNS is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook/Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, Metering Blue Book, Consistency Manual and the Financial and Business goals preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NESC.

Responsibilities

  • Design, estimating, and coordinating construction for multiple overhead and underground construction projects.
  • Provide superior customer service and Project Management skills.
  • Prepare and schedule construction of jobs to meet committed service dates.
  • Write and execute switching orders to effectively maintain, operate, and assist in the distribution planning of the system for reliability.
  • Process all documentation in accordance with Compliance requirements.
  • Participate in the on-call trouble supervision rotation and be available after business hours for local, out-of-town, and out-of-state trouble and storm restoration.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Georgia Power and Southern Company distribution construction practices, guidelines, and procedures.
