About The Position

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This position is posted in a range, and the selected candidate will be placed in one of the grades based on education and experience. The role involves technical expertise, leadership and guidance, planning and organization, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal skills, decision-making, and business awareness within the energy sector.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET along with two or more years of related engineering experience (for Engineer Grade 7).
Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at the Engineer Grade 7 level.
Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy the degree requirement if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET (for Engineer Sr Grade 8).
2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET (for Engineer Sr Grade 8).
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred (for Engineer Sr Grade 8).

Responsibilities

Performs intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge.
Applies theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis.
Analyzes and recommends enhancements to business processes.
Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity.
Performs routine engineering activity with minimum direction from higher-level employees.
Follows policies, practices, standards and rules of the company and external agencies.
Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees.
Coordinates the development of input necessary to forecast costs for routine projects and improvements.
Uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities.
Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
Resolves and initiates solutions to routine problems which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin.
Identifies problems that are beyond the normal routine.
Seeks out opportunities and embraces new ideas and approaches.
Develops, reviews, or presents technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses.
Is an active team member and networks with peers inside and outside the AEP system.
Identifies key stakeholders and uses informal networks to get things done.
Resolves conflict and builds consensus.
Makes decisions subject to review within established policies and procedures.
Makes decisions that affect the work of the team.
Understands AEP's organizational structure and the role of their individual organizational unit.
