About The Position

Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This position is posted in a range, and the selected candidate will be placed in one of the grades based on education and experience. The role involves technical expertise, leadership and guidance, planning and organization, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal skills, decision-making, and business awareness within the energy sector.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET along with two or more years of related engineering experience (for Engineer Grade 7).
  • Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at the Engineer Grade 7 level.
  • Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy the degree requirement if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET (for Engineer Sr Grade 8).
  • 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET (for Engineer Sr Grade 8).
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred (for Engineer Sr Grade 8).

Responsibilities

  • Performs intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge.
  • Applies theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis.
  • Analyzes and recommends enhancements to business processes.
  • Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity.
  • Performs routine engineering activity with minimum direction from higher-level employees.
  • Follows policies, practices, standards and rules of the company and external agencies.
  • Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees.
  • Coordinates the development of input necessary to forecast costs for routine projects and improvements.
  • Uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities.
  • Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
  • Resolves and initiates solutions to routine problems which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin.
  • Identifies problems that are beyond the normal routine.
  • Seeks out opportunities and embraces new ideas and approaches.
  • Develops, reviews, or presents technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses.
  • Is an active team member and networks with peers inside and outside the AEP system.
  • Identifies key stakeholders and uses informal networks to get things done.
  • Resolves conflict and builds consensus.
  • Makes decisions subject to review within established policies and procedures.
  • Makes decisions that affect the work of the team.
  • Understands AEP's organizational structure and the role of their individual organizational unit.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the budgeting and approval process.
  • Applies economic analysis techniques in problem solving.
  • Develops an understanding of utility regulation and financing.
