About The Position

Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. The successful candidate will develop and maintain Propulsion Plant Manual (PPM) content that accurately describes the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fluid and mechanical systems within the A1B propulsion plant. This role requires close collaboration with system and component engineers, NNL, NAVSEA, and fellow authors to ensure that all documentation meets technical and quality standards. This role requires excellent written and oral communication. The candidate will conduct extensive research and apply critical thinking into clear, concise manuals that support plant operation. PPM authors become experts in their cognizant systems and learn the details of how the overall propulsion plant is operated.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience
Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
US Citizenship Required
Final Clearance Required to Start

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Propulsion Plant Manual (PPM) content that accurately describes the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fluid and mechanical systems within the A1B propulsion plant.
Collaborate with system and component engineers, NNL, NAVSEA, and fellow authors to ensure that all documentation meets technical and quality standards.
Conduct extensive research and apply critical thinking into clear, concise manuals that support plant operation.
Become an expert in cognizant systems and learn the details of how the overall propulsion plant is operated.
Write, edit, and update PPM sections for steam plant fluid and mechanical systems.
Maintain proficiency in control networks for system components (valves, pumps, etc.).
Prepare formal letters to the government and prime contractor for approval of PPM content revisions.
Verify technical accuracy by working directly with engineers and subject matter experts.
Participate in peer review cycles with other authors, providing and receiving feedback on letters and telecons for internal and external customers.
Maintain consistency with established authoring guidelines and documentation standards.
Stay current on plant operations and maintenance practices to continuously improve the manual’s relevance.
